2024 Promise on the Plains grant applications now open
WICHITA, Kan., May 2, 2024 — The annual Promise on the Plains funding opportunity from United Way of the Plains strategically invests financial resources in the Wichita metropolitan region to build a more equitable community and enhance the #ForceForGood movement. Human service charities focused on strengthening the underserved areas of our region are invited to apply for funding. Grant applications can be completed at unitedwayplains.org/promise and range from $2,500 to $10,000. Applications close at noon on Thursday, May 23.
Pete Najera, United Way President and CEO, said the goal of this funding stream is to build organizational capacity and reduce the gaps and disparities in health, education, financial stability and basic needs experienced in traditionally underserved communities. “These grants will advance the work of United Way by offering help and hope to our neighbors. We invest in these charitable organizations with the goal of providing opportunities and pathways for all to thrive.”
Grant recipients will once again be announced as part of the city’s annual Juneteenth celebration. Funding for the 2024 grant program was generously provided by Gene and Yolanda Camarena as well as other private donors. Last year’s Promise on the Plains grants helped strengthen the work of 15 local nonprofits with awards of $100,000.
Promise on the Plains is one of three funding streams offered annually by United Way of the Plains. The other two initiatives are Opportunity on the Plains and Impact on the Plains. Recipients of the 2024 Opportunity on the Plains funding were announced on April 10 of this year. Impact on the Plains is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 12.
