Credit Union of America celebrates 2024 Presidents Day with community service projects

WICHITA, Kan., Feb. 16, 2024

Event: Special community service projects held during staff annual training

When: Monday, Feb. 19, 2024; 2 to 2:40 p.m.

Where: Holiday Inn Wichita East – 549 S. Rock Road in the Main Ballroom, Foyer, Oak Room and Pecan Room

310 Credit Union of America employees will participate in training and teambuilding activities on Presidents Day. United Way of the Plains has developed four onsite volunteer projects for the employees that will benefit three area nonprofits as well as teachers at West High School. The projects will take place from 2 to 2:40 p.m.

  • Bedtime Bags for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Sedgwick County – 85 bedtime bags will be assembled to make the nighttime routine easier for children experiencing a difficult time. Bag items include a hairbrush, toothbrush kit, socks and a stuffed plush.
  • Teacher Restock Bags for West High School – 185 bags will be prepared for educators. The bags will contain some of the supplies that teachers rely on for their daily work in the classroom, including pens, markers, tissues, sticky notes and disinfectant wipes.
  • Cozy Cocoa Kits for Victory in the Valley – 85 kits for making hot cocoa will be assembled to provide comfort for those dealing with severe health issues.
  • Enrichment Items for the Kansas Humane Society – 85 toys will be produced to help keep shelter animals healthy and their minds actively engaged while they wait for a permanent home.

Background:
It’s a Presidents Day tradition for Credit Union of America employees to volunteer for community service projects as part of their annual company-wide training. United Way of the Plains Volunteer Center Manager Amy Hawley planned the projects for this year’s event and a dozen United Way team members will be on hand to assist with the activities.
