    The House is a confidential shelter, outreach and advocacy service for women and children fleeing domestic violence.
  • St. Anthony Family Shelter
    The Shelter provides temporary housing for homeless families.

Center of Hope

  • Rent, Utilities and Emergency Assistance
    Assistance is given as needed to prevent families from being evicted from their homes. The service also has case management services for homeless prevention and helps families who are already homeless reintegrate into the community.

The Salvation Army

  • Emergency Social Services
    Assistance is given for basic needs to low-income and poverty-level families and individuals on an emergency basis.
  • Homeless Services
    Up to 42 beds are available for emergency and transitional housing, designed to provide both short and long-term shelter for families and single women who are in crisis and lack other resources. It also helps clients reduce barriers to living independently by improving their financial stability, increasing their daily living skills and securing and maintaining permanent housing.

Senior Services, Inc. of Wichita

  • Meals on Wheels
    Volunteers deliver nutritious lunches to homebound seniors five days a week. For the most frail, meals are delivered every day.


  • Transitional Housing and Support Services
    For over twenty years, StepStone has been the only longer-term (up to two years) transitional housing program in the Wichita community specifically for parents and children who have been through the trauma of domestic violence. With housing for up to 35 families at one time, survivors can receive therapeutic counseling, life skills training, budget counseling, guidance on personal boundaries and healthy relationships, educational and career goal setting and parenting skills training. These services give survivors the support they need to gain independence and control of their lives both now and for the future.

United Methodist Open Door

  • Community Food Ministry
    A nutritionally-calculated food box is supplied for poverty-level households.
  • Homeless Resource Center
    Homeless individuals are assisted in finding community resources and given a safe and secure day shelter from the elements.

Wichita Children’s Home

  • CrossRoads Shelter
    CrossRoads Emergency Shelter is a 30-day bed program that provides runaway, homeless and at-risk youth who are 18-24 with a safe place to sleep.
  • Emergency Foster Care
    To meet the needs of children in crisis, the Wichita Children’s Home depends on caring foster families (more recently known as Resource Families) in the community to provide assistance. The program arranges foster care homes for children admitted through police protective custody.
  • Emergency Residential Care
    The Wichita Children’s Home provides the only emergency temporary residential shelter for children in the community. The home is open 24/7 and serves children from birth to 18 years of age; children can be admitted by parents, law enforcement, social workers and sometimes themselves. The program also arranges foster care homes for children admitted through police protective custody.
  • Transitional Living Program BRIDGES
    BRIDGES is a multi-site program providing safe and stable housing, counseling, education, life skills coaching and vocational preparation for 16 to 21 year olds facing challenges such as “aging out” of foster care, pregnancy and homelessness.
