HEALTH
Facilitated 269 free skin cancer screenings at May 7 event led by area dermatologists and sponsored by United Way.
EDUCATION
- 6,100 books delivered to 3,050 children in 14 schools through Coaching for Literacy initiative (pic above)
- 1,600 books given away at Wichita River Festival
- 856 free books distributed through Preschool Development Grant (PDG)
- 300 free books featuring characters of color given away at Wichita’s Juneteenth celebration
FINANCIAL STABILITY
RECORD BREAKING! More than $7.9 million returned to 5,500 local individuals and families through our VITA free tax prep program.
BASIC NEEDS
227 COVID-19 vaccines administered to individuals experiencing homelessness.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
- 600 U.S. flags displayed in honor of veterans for Memorial Day and a virtual dedication wall listing those who served (header image above). Special thanks to our union partners for hosting and supporting the Flags of Freedom initiative.
- Initiated, managed and staffed the Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) in response to the April 29 tornados for 15 consecutive days
- VP of Community Impact, Abel Frederic, and board member Moji Rosson graduated from Advance Kansas
- President and CEO Pete Najera was a panelist at annual Social Media Day seminar
FUNDING ANNOUNCEMENTS
- $100,000 invested in 10 nonprofits to build a more equitable community through Promise on the Plains
- 69 human services programs received $6.6 million in investments through Opportunity on the Plains
- $75,000 in Wichita Collective Impact Grants awarded to 4 nonprofit programs to improve kindergarten readiness
