DOLLY PARTON’S IMAGINATION LIBRARY
Helping children foster a love of reading.
UNLOCK A LIFETIME OF LEARNING, ONE BOOK AT A TIME
Parents, caregivers, and educational experts know that developing language is fundamental to a child’s development. The more we read with our children (especially in the early years), the stronger their pre-literacy skills become. And the stronger those skills become, the better their reading comprehension will be. Children who can read well by the end of third grade are more likely to graduate from high school or secondary school, studies show. And we all know that graduation is key to professional development and economic stability.
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library fosters a love of reading and learning in preschool children by mailing them a free, age-appropriate book each month until they turn 5 years old, regardless of the family’s income. Children who are enrolled at birth will amass their own personal library of 60 books. Through a network of local affiliate United Ways and support from the Kansas Children’s Cabinet and Trust Fund, the Imagination Library is now open to any Kansas child.
