Share your career history and how you made your way to United Way.
After graduating from Kansas State University, I began working at the Sedgwick County Zoo as the development assistant. After a short period of time, I moved to the volunteer department where I was the volunteer coordinator for over five years. Working for a nonprofit organization, I was always familiar with United Way and the vital role they played in helping better our community. I knew I was at a place in my career where I wanted to grow in my profession and personal life. From the moment I met everyone on the United Way team, I knew this organization was where I was meant to be. I am beyond thrilled to work with such a diverse and talented team of individuals here at the United Way!
Share a favorite book, movie or tv show, and why.
This is an easy answer…A League of Their Own! Softball was a big part of my childhood growing up. Both my sister and I played until we were in high school, and my dad often was our coach. This movie was one of our favorites and one that we quoted whenever we could!
If you would like, share a little bit about your family.
I was born and raised in Andover, Kan., with my parents and one sister. Both my sister and I graduated from Kansas State University, so we are big-time supporters of the Wildcats! I am a proud dog mom to a three-year-old pup named Hudson. We love to spend time outside playing fetch or relaxing on the patio. My other favorite title is Aunt Amy to my two nieces, Ruby Kate and Mara. Seeing life through the eyes of two little girls is so much fun! I am so grateful to have a supportive and loving family. And wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
What is the top reason you enjoy working at United Way?
I enjoy working at the United Way because I know I am part of an organization that is striving to better our community. This is a team effort and one that can’t be done alone. When starting a new career journey, it is easy to be overwhelmed, scared and even nervous but everyone here at the United Way has made this transition so much easier. I truly feel like I am part of team! Did I mention there is always someone available to go on a coffee run? (:
