United Way of the Plains announces new president and CEO
WICHITA, Kan., Thursday, July 9, 2020 — United Way of the Plains announced today that its Executive Committee has completed the process of hiring a new president and CEO for the organization. Peter (“Pete”) Nájera will be filling the role on August 10.
“I am very excited to serve the Wichita metro area with the world-class team at the United Way,” said Nájera. “In my mind, there is no greater calling than advancing the common good right here in our own backyard with other committed nonprofits fighting to improve the health, education and financial stability of all members of our community. I look forward to partnering with other community leaders in making the Wichita metro area a great place to live and work.”
Nájera comes to United Way from the Rudd Foundation where he, as president, has led the organization’s relationships with a variety of nonprofits. He has also networked throughout the Wichita area, building relationships with many of the city’s business and political leaders while working within the nonprofit landscape of the community. His history of servant leadership is also evident through his service in the United States Army for 20 years prior to joining the nonprofit community.
“Pete’s enthusiasm and passion for our community, as well as his fresh ideas around strategy and communications, will help us lead our organization at this pivotal time in our history,” said Ginger Farney, United Way of the Plains Board Chair and Office Managing Partner with Ernst & Young LLP, Wichita.
Nájera received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame, his Master of Business Administration from Trident University, and his Master of Public Administration from Harvard University.
Nájera’s hiring fills United Way of the Plains’ top staff position after Patrick J. Hanrahan retired June 30, 2020, having served 35 years as president and CEO.
