United Way of the Plains Hosts Third Annual Day of Action, Inspiring Community-Wide Volunteerism
WICHITA, Kan., June 18, 2026 – Nearly 200 community volunteers came together today for United Way of the Plains’ third annual Day of Action, a community-wide day of service dedicated to creating meaningful impact for local nonprofits. Volunteers completed projects for 12 local charitable organizations, providing hands-on support to help strengthen their missions.
“Day of Action is about more than completing projects; it’s part of a movement to build a stronger, more resilient community together,” said Pete Najera, United Way of the Plains President & CEO. “Today was a powerful reminder that when everyone pitches in a little, we can create a meaningful and lasting impact across our community.”

People interested in volunteering are encouraged to visit United Way of the Plains’ Volunteer Center portal at VolunteerToday.org. There, they can explore local volunteer opportunities, including family friendly opportunities, that match their interests. In 2025, 6,769 compassionate community members volunteered 21,862 hours to help local nonprofits.
