NEXTenant is Opening Doors to a Fresh Start
For one Wichita neighbor, stability began with a set of keys and a property provider willing to try something new. Thanks to our new NEXTenant program, that formerly homeless Wichitan now has a safe place to call home.
Developed by United Way of the Plains and the Coalition to End Homelessness in Wichita/Sedgwick County, NEXTenant promotes successful housing outcomes by building strong, trust-based partnerships between property providers, tenants, and service providers.
“NEXTenant is your path to earning reliable rental income, protecting your investment, and changing lives all at once,” said Shylee Ziad, United Way of the Plains Continuum of Care Planning Associate of the benefits for property managers.
What property providers get with NEXTenant:
- Quick Tenant Placement: List your available units on a specialized platform used by case managers working with individuals who are ready to rent.
- Reduced Risk: Tenants receive wraparound support, helping them stay housed and lowering turnover.
- Free, Specialized Listing Service: Advertise your units at no cost.
- Ongoing Communication: Clear, consistent communication between the case manager, tenant, and property manager throughout the housing placement process and tenancy.
- Education & Resources: Access tools to help you manage and understand the needs of supported tenants.
- Eviction Prevention Support: Mediation and intervention resources are available if issues arise.
- Satisfaction knowing you’re helping create a stronger community for all.

The first successful lease-up through NEXTenant is more than a milestone, it’s proof that when landlords and nonprofits work together, lives change, and communities grow stronger. Every placement represents not just a filled unit, but a person or family gaining security and hope.
“To our first participating property provider, EH Property Management, thank you for stepping up and being part of the solution. Your partnership made a direct and lasting impact on someone’s life. This is just the beginning, and we’re ready to keep building momentum,” said Ziad.
