United Way Rallies Volunteers for June 20 Day of Action
WICHITA, Kan., May 22, 2025 — United Way of the Plains is coordinating more than a dozen projects across Wichita as part of the 2025 Day of Action, a global day of service aimed at mobilizing community volunteers. This year’s local event will take place on Friday, June 20, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will feature a full day of volunteer activities, community building, and celebration.
The Day of Action unites thousands of volunteers across hundreds of communities around the world. Wichita’s participation will include a diverse range of hands-on projects, from landscaping and organizing to basic construction and assembling welcome home kits. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up with their friends, family and coworkers to make a difference in their community.
This year’s event will kick off and conclude at Chicken N Pickle (1240 N. 7:45 a.m. – Doors open
8:00 a.m. – Breakfast
8:30 a.m. – Welcome & instructions
8:45 a.m. – Group photo & depart for projects
9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. – Volunteer activities
12:15 to 3:00 p.m. – Celebration party

United Way of the Plains’ Volunteer Engagement Manager Amy Hawley is excited for this year’s event. “For our first year, the event was a huge success, with over 120 volunteers partnering with 12 incredible nonprofit organizations. The energy and enthusiasm for giving back were unmatched. I’m ready for year two and thrilled to see how this event will continue to grow in the years to come.”
Registration is open through Monday, June 16. Volunteer spots are limited. Children ages 8 and older may participate with an accompanying adult. Select projects are available for corporate and team participation. Full project details, including age restrictions and requirements, can be found online.
