Get to Know Rachel Linn…Financial Stability Coordinator

Rachel Linn joined the community impact team in 2024 as the financial stability coordinator.

Describe your role with United Way of the Plains.

I provide financial education, digital financial literacy and financial coaching for area residents. I also coordinate Bank On ICT community engagement activities related to empowering financial stability for those seeking assistance.

I enjoy making connections with people across the community, from representatives in the financial industry to individuals opening their first bank account in years, all to further financial stability in Wichita.

Tell us more about Bank on ICT.

The Bank On ICT coalition was the first Bank On program in the state of Kansas. It is part of a national movement to connect people who are currently unbanked or underbanked with safe and affordable financial products and practices. The coalition includes financial institutions, community partners, and local government. I really enjoy the collaboration and momentum around ways we can better reach our underserved neighbors through second chance banking and other financial resources.

Tell us a little about your work background and what drew you to your current role.

I’ve always been a numbers person. I have a degree in accounting and experience working in banking and with nonprofits and recently provided financial counseling at the Louis Maygarden Center for Financial Literacy at the University of West Florida. As an Accredited Financial Counselor, I enjoy spending time with individuals to help them with their personalized budgets and other financial needs. While I’ve lived away for a while, I’m glad I’ve been able to come back home and help increase financial inclusion, so everyone has access to financial services here in Wichita.

How do you define success in your role?

Success to me is seeing individuals have access to financial services when they might not have in the past, and the positive difference that it makes in their lives.

What are some of your goals for this role?

I like thinking of new ways to address old problems and leveraging both the data and information learned from clients and partners to think about how to continue to improve and enhance our financial literacy experiences. There is a lot of excitement within the Bank On ICT coalition this year. We continue to bring more financial institutions on board to increase awareness and access. Our goal is to lift the community to be more financially empowered.

What do you enjoy most about working at United Way?

The people and atmosphere. Everyone is helpful and passionate about the important work they do, and how it all connects to make the most impact in the community. We really are a #ForceForGood, and I’m excited to be a part of this movement.
